Jamie Wickens has been a butcher for over 35 years, a Rick Stein Food Hero and one of the The Times top 10 UK butchers. On the counter you will find specialities like Romney Marsh lamb from Frank Langrish at Castle Farm, Winchelsea Beach, as well as choice cuts of Sussex beef and native breeds free range pork.
Jamie has also won numerous sausage competitions including the prestigious ‘Best in Sussex’ and placed top 10 in ‘Champion of Champions’. Jamie Wickens only sells Cotswold White free range chicken and Sutton Hoo slow grown, natural diet, organic free range chicken – just as chicken used to taste!
The Game season starts in August on ‘The Glorious Twelfth’ with grouse. From September 1st partridge and wild fowl are in season and regularly available in the counter. From time to time you can also find delights such as wild boar, rabbit, wood pigeon and hare! As from October 1st all the fur and feather is in season such as pheasant, woodcock, squirrel and not forgetting local venison.
The Ship’s Store now stocks a range of its own food products including infusions like rosemary and smoked garlic oil, chilli oil and lemon grass and ginger cordial.
